A free 750 Words alternative for private morning pages
Word Vomit gives you a blank page, a daily word goal, and a streak. Try it without an account, keep using the core app for free, and export your writing whenever you want.
How it compares
The Original 750 Words FAQ lists a 30-day free trial, followed by a $5 monthly subscription. The core Word Vomit app is free. Writing, your archive, stats, and exports are included.
| Feature | Word Vomit | Original 750 Words |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free core app | 30-day trial, then $5/month |
| Daily goal | Adjustable from 50 to 5,000 words | 750 words |
| Privacy | Entries are never public | Private entries with no public option |
Pricing and features checked October 25, 2026. The original and newer 750 Words products differ, so compare the newer version’s current offer separately if that is the one you use.
What you get
- A page you can try now. Write before deciding whether to make an account.
- An adjustable daily goal. Start small or use the classic 750 words.
- Private entries. Optional public profiles contain statistics, never journal text.
- No AI analysis. Your entries are not scanned for mood, themes, or insights.
- Markdown and JSON exports. Download everything from Settings.
- Draft recovery and revision history. Autosave, a device draft, and snapshots help protect your work.
I built Word Vomit because I wanted to do morning pages without managing a journaling system. Open the page, write, and it saves.
Bringing your writing with you
Settings accepts Word Vomit JSON, Day One JSON, and dated Markdown. Existing entries stay unchanged, so an import only fills empty days. Check the export format of your current app before choosing a file.
Backfilled entries count toward word totals and entry counts. A day that reaches its goal also counts toward streaks. Simply opening an empty past day changes nothing.
Common questions
- Is Word Vomit free?
- Yes. Writing, your archive, stats, and exports are free. Optional memberships and donations add a few perks, but the core app has no trial deadline or paywall.
- Do I have to write exactly 750 words?
- No. That is the default because it is about three longhand pages. You can choose a goal from 50 to 5,000 words. Completed entries keep the goal you reached that day.
- Can anyone read my entries?
- No. Entries never have a public read path. If you add a username, your public profile shows aggregate statistics such as streaks and word counts, never entry text.
- Does Word Vomit analyze my writing with AI?
- No. There is no feature that reads your entries for mood, themes, or other automated analysis.
- Can I export or delete my writing?
- Yes. Export everything as Markdown or JSON from Settings. You can also delete your account and its live data there.
- Can I use it on my phone?
- Yes. It works in a phone browser and can be added to your home screen. Drafts also mirror to your device as you type.
