About
Word Vomit exists because morning pages work, and most journaling apps get in their way. The practice needs a blank page, a daily target, and the certainty that what you write stays yours alone. It does not need folders, formatting, templates, moods, prompts, or a social feed.
So this app is deliberately small: one entry a day, a bar that fills as you write, a streak worth keeping, and an archive that stays out of sight until you go looking. The name is the instruction: get it out of your head, and don’t worry about what it looks like on the page.
Who makes it
One person, Matt Freitas. I’m a dad in the Pacific Northwest, I’m deep into self exploration and the morning practice, and I’m a nerd. This app sits right at the intersection of those three things, which is probably why I enjoyed building it as much as I did.
I started it on July 29, 2026 because I wanted an easy way to actually do my morning pages and keep track of them. I’d been doing the practice on and off for years, mostly badly, and every app I tried wanted me to organize things and pick a template. I just wanted a blank page and something that told me I showed up.
There’s no company behind this and no growth team. When you email info@wordvomit.net, the person who built the thing reads it.
What it costs
Nothing. Word Vomit is free: the writing, the archive, the stats, the export, all of it. No ads, and your data is not for sale. The bills are small and I pay them because I use this thing every morning myself.
If you want to help keep it running, there’s an optional membership and a one-time gift on the pricing page, each with a few small perks as a thank-you. Your writing stays exportable either way: Markdown or JSON, any time, from Settings.
Where your writing lives
Entries are private by default and protected in the database itself, not just in the app. The details (what’s collected, who hosts it, how deletion works) are in the privacy policy, written to be read rather than scrolled past.
